Dear UFF-FSU Members,
Each year, the Florida legislature makes it harder for unions like ours to maintain recognition — and this year is no exception.
Right now, we’re at 58% membership density — close to where we need to be, but not there yet.
In the past, unions that fell short have had a “back-up” path through a recertification process. But under the new legislation, that option is effectively foreclosed for large chapters like ours. The path forward is clear: we need to grow our membership.
So this is an all hands on deck moment.
We are hosting a UFF-FSU Town Hall on April 9 at 4 PM (via Zoom) to coordinate our next steps. We’ll be joined by Adela Ghadimi, Executive Director of United Faculty of Florida.
At the town hall, we’ll learn what came out of the legislative session, share what’s working across departments, and outline concrete ways each of us can contribute. We’ll have plenty of time for questions, too.
You’ll also hear about the April 20-23 membership drive and how you can plug in. We’ll be going door to door in pairs, talking with our colleagues about membership. Don’t worry if you haven’t participated in the past — we’ll pair you with those who have!

Our union is us. If we want it to continue, it’s up to us to show up and build it.
In solidarity,
UFF-FSU Membership Committee
